Frank “Oz” Osborne is the President and Founder of HawkGrips. In 1997, he was involved in a devastating skiing accident that nearly killed him. The severe orthopedic and soft tissue injuries he sustained would require close to 30 surgeries over the next 10 years. During this time, Frank relentlessly pursued therapeutic treatments to help alleviate his nearly constant pain and functional limitations.
This search was mostly in vain until 2008, when he experienced instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) for the first time. Frank became inspired by the transformative results and resolved to start his own company that would manufacture the finest instruments in the field. The result of this dedicated mission was HawkGrips, which he founded in 2012.
Previously Frank had worked for about 15 years in pharmaceutical sales, while also dabbling in real estate as an owner, renter, and renovator of properties. In the approximately five years since he founded HawkGrips, the company has grown from a one-person operation to a staff of more than 10.
“As a result, my role has really evolved from the beginning, where I was directly involved in pretty much everything from the manufacturing to selling, marketing, and shipping,” Frank says. “Now my position entails a lot more general oversight. I feel that I have the right team in place, so my focus is on making sure they have all the tools and resources they need to do their jobs well.”
Client relations represent another significant component of Frank’s role. From establishing initial contacts to building and strengthening those connections over time, he places great value on relationships and views them as fundamental pillars in the success of HawkGrips. This personal approach has helped the company become a multimillion-dollar enterprise, with enthusiastic practitioners in more than 15 countries and further international expansion on the way.
So how does Frank like to spend his free time?
“What free time?” he responds with a laugh. But Frank does enjoy getting together with family and is an animal lover, particularly of dogs. He also likes to travel and has been able to indulge this interest frequently thanks to the impressive growth of HawkGrips.
“That’s a nice perk of the job,” reflects Frank. “My work not only takes me all around the country, but also the world.”
